WILLIE NELSON.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
For this distinctive art project, I chose to create a spray paint portrait of the iconic musician Willie Nelson, a style that has come to define my art business, Art by Colby. This project combines digital and traditional art techniques, beginning with the creation of stencil layers in Photoshop and culminating in the physical spray painting process. This method, which involves four meticulously crafted stencil layers, has become the foundation of my artistic identity and business.

1. Capture Willie Nelson’s Essence: Create a vibrant and recognizable portrait of Willie Nelson that captures his spirit and iconic status.
2. Refine Stencil Art Technique: Utilize digital tools to design precise stencil layers for spray painting, showcasing my unique art style.
3. Master Spray Paint Application: Apply spray paint with precision across multiple layers, blending stencil art with freehand spray painting techniques for the background.

PROCESS
The project began in Photoshop, where I designed four separate stencil layers. Each layer represents a different color or tone in the final piece, and together, they form the composite image of Willie Nelson.
This preparatory stage required a keen eye for detail and an understanding of how layers interact to create depth and texture.
After designing the stencils, I printed and meticulously cut them out, a process that demands precision to ensure the accuracy of the final image. The stencils were then strategically placed on a canvas, and I began the spray painting process, layer by layer.
